A Time-honored Tradition
Dan celebrated his Bar Mitzvah on Saturday, December 13, during the weekly congregational Shabbat service. For this occasion, Dan spent months of preparation, learning to chant in Hebrew specific passages from the Torah.
Dan’s Torah portion was “Vayishlach”, from the book of Genesis. His Haftorah passage contained writings from the prophets that relate to Vayishlach. Vayishlach translates as “And he sent”, referring to the gifts and messengers Jacob sent to precede his anxious reuniting with his estranged brother Esau after many years of separation.
In addition, Dan presented his D’var Torah, his own reflections about the significance of his Torah portion.
